Discussion:
USB Mass Storage for BeOS

I notice a number of people have problems getting the USB Mass Storage
working.

Due to the driver code I am working on I end up wiping the USB off my
BeOS accidentally, but often.

I find the manual instructions hard to follow and if you make one
mistake, it fails. So I create a easy to install archive with symbolic
links to all the needed area, and a prepare script to do the rest.
Should I post this to BeBits? It is after-all the same info that is
already available on BeBits, just differently organized.

But if you have a script that gets the sym links right you might have
solved the "problems" for a lot of less technical people.

Ok it is on BeBits.

Just drag the bash_history to a terminal window to create all the
proper links.

Just drag the bash_history to a terminal window to create all the
proper links.
Then I made a folder and expanded to that folder. then copy & pasted the
bash history file into terminal and hit enter.
But when I rebooted BeOS still didnt see my usb stick.
Did I miss a step?

Not sure, I tesed here a lot of USB sticks which didn't
work under BeOS while some others did.
( older install method )
If you have one you can test an usb cardreader or
a digital camera.

Verify it doesn't work by plug-in it in and out several times
and with some memory card inserted! and a not too long USB cable.
Al systems I've tried so far, at least gave trouble with mounting ;-)
(Some others are simply working.)
If it doesn't do anything, I would start over using the manual
setup method, just to see if it make any difference.

I dual boot with windows ME so I can just use windows to do USB and
other things BeOS wont.
Thanx

Yes, put in on Bebits. Do you have also somthing for
the workaround in case the system doesn't boot?
If I remember well I need this workaround.
