It runs so slowly on this P1 233 that I can see a distinct delay in my
typing and what gets shown on the screen.
Any way to lighten up seamonkey?

Don't count on it.
It is my big frustration concerning BeOS, it is a bloody
shame we still have no decent browser.
(Net+ or Opera where so much faster )
On the bright sight, we must be thankful for the guys working
on these Mozilla derivates so maybe in a few year.......
Don't have to high hope for the P1, a lot of extra memory
does help BTW.

Firefox is useable for me at least.

That one has 288MB ram and its not helping much.
This one has 64MB but its a PII and its still slow.
It took 45 seconds from the time I clicked "reply" button
to opening the reply window!
:(
If I could code I'd hack Gossip so it shows full headers so you could
see all the newsgroups a message is posted in.
Gossip is the best of the freebie newsreaders.
BNEws hangs, BeInformed just crashes.
Gossip is rock solid but lacks some nice features.
Too bad development stopped with it.

Oh, well I remembered from a long time ago when I noticed
a significant speed increase after I installed some additional
memory in an ( very ) old computer.
It went from extremely slow to very slow :-)

Well lets all beg Colin Munro (***@mice.virtualave.net)
the author of "newsreader" to pick up and finish his newsreader.
This is hands down the best looking newsreader there is in any
OS! It has great features but it has still bug or two but I use
it anyway. Try it and see what I mean, you never want anything else.
OK lets gather some money for this guy and pay him for it, same
for Netpositive or Opera, I am more then willing to pay for
a updated good working Opera.

BTW if you try Newsreader and you have downloaded the messages
close newsreader and open it again, this way the messages are
saved in case of a crash. If you don't, and newsreader crashes,
( with happens sometimes on 1 out of 20.000 messages ) you have
to download the messages again.

Throwing money down that hole isnt something I'd be willing to do as
both PC's are almost 10 years old.

Mice newsreader isnt free. I got into linux & BeOS because of the
economic factors.
M$ is too expensive.

I used Pineapple without any problems but since its a commercial demo
the time ran out and the guy didnt offer any alternate payment options.
I wrote & offer to pay cash but got no response.

I'm not. When all the mozilla code is free for using why bother?

Wow. Pineapple never did that...

Oh well...as you can see I'm back to linux since usenet is a big deal
for me and a useable newsreader is the deciding factor as to whether or
not I use an OS.

Because it is:
about a zillion times faster,
It can print websites
It runs on older hardware
It runs java script
It doesn't crash on different websites
One can use it with telebanking without crashes.

Need more reasons?

I know, Pineapple has other problems, like if you tune in now
to see a message just posted you have to download a million massages
before you can download the message that you are interested in.

Not nearly as nice look or options newsreader has.

Hmm, that is a big sacrifice for that few times newsreader crashes.
There is no newsreader in linux that looks so good as BeOS newsreader.

Only...heh...I'd consider it if he had the same deal that the guy who
made Damn Small Linux does: a PO Box.
I sent him some cash.

Telebanking? I like to do my banking

The best newsreader ever written hasnt even been ported to any unixes:
X-News. Once youve tried X-News you'll wonder why everyone didnt copy
*that* :)

Knode is nice...
Pan is too net-nannyish with its crosspost limit.

I just installed Opera (Firefox doesn't want to run due to some missing

and pay then. *LOL*
