I keep getting a black screen on this Duron 1200mhz with a S-3
ProSavage M266 (86C420) graphics card.
I installed Vesa Accepted and still get the same black screen unless I
use the spacebar to set "use failsafe video mode" in the boot up
process...then I get color and it works fine. I also installed the S-3
Savage drivers from bebits but that didnt do anything.
So whats missing?
Any ideas?

Hello me, its me again...

I fixed it in the BIOS. I'm sure it was this setting that did it:
Its an Award bios btw....go into
Advanced Chipset Features Option , AGP & P2P Bridge Control,
AGP Aperture Size...and set this to [32]

I saw something about that on a webforum and that was the fix :)

Now I can use Seamonkey for newsfroups.

Yay!

How do you go online?

I have no luck with my Xircom PC card crashing BeOS every time I boot it
with the card inserted.

Heh...funny thing about that...after playing Heretic on BeOS for a few
hours I decided to try my modem that BeOS sees and has a port listed
for and everything. Its a US Robotics 2977 that works under Linux
flawlessly...I did the instructions about how to set up a port.
I used this:
http://www.bebits.com/app/2753
From here:
http://www.bebits.com/browse/193
(look at the whole list you might find something that applies to you)

And then tried about 100 different drivers with *no* luck.
So that and the fact that the deskbar kept crashing...BeOS no longer
lives on that PC...Simply Mepis got put back on and it works
flawlessly.
BeOS worked without any issues on a Dell 4100 though :)

I got the driver, but it just crashes ("Welcome to BeOS debugging land")
on me when inserting the card. I assume there is something wrong with the
(memory) setting I added to one of the config files.

All work but the W-LAN and Xircom Ethernet card.

BeOS supportfor modems is pretty bad.
Find an external hardware modem that supports linux and attaches to the
serial port and you'll have sucess.
The PCI modems are really hit & miss...I had better luck with old ISA
modems on BeOS than with PCI ones.
Mostly because those old ISA modems are Hayes compliant hardware
modems.

Ah...ethernet...I dunno if that even works in beos.

Have ethernet which doesn't work, not even thought about the modem, but

From 1999, and then there was a quite active BeOS community that year I
might be lucky with that (internet Lucent "Winmodem").

Does, had an 509 (hmm, forgot the exact name) running on my old PC. And
there is a Xircom driver for my PC card, but I guess I messed up the
config.

Lucky is right. LT winmodems are pretty bad.
You'd be better off trying a linux compatible PCMCIA card modem.
THeres a PC card drivers zip file included with BeOSMAX...
