In pineapple news I have to constantly re-fetch articles as the server
seems to time out. And it returns an 502 error. Even after I have
confirmed with my isp's tech support that I am authorised to use the nntp
server.
Any ideas?

I'd check it with a different newsreader. It may be that pineapple has
something weird happening.

Anything that you can compile, I'd assume. (I never used BeOS for internet.)
If this was happening to me, I'd try tin.

It might be a pineapple glitch. I'll read the manual.
But BeOS mice dies while trying to download the whole list of newsgroups from
giganews. It chokes after one or two seconds.
Thanks for the feedback :)

There was one called newsreader <http://www.bebits.com/app/776> that I
used to use when I had a BeOS machine.
