Hi,
I have used BeOS R5 with BONE for months thinking that BeOS was running
the cooling fan on my Compaq Armada 1700 laptop often enough to keep
the temperature at the right level. Two nights ago, the laptop seemed
warmer than usual, so I booted into Linux to check the temperature.
During the boot process, the temperature was reported as 100 degrees
Celsius and the system did an emergency shutdown. I have never had the
Linux boot process cause an extreme temperature rise, so I am assuming
that the high temperature developed during the time BeOS was running.
This post is only a report of my experience and not a request for help.
I am not going to use BeOS on this machine any longer and suggest that
others be cautious if they try. As an aside, running Linux on this
particular laptop requires a custom-patched kernel to run the fan
properly:
