Really like to get BeOS going on my laptop.
One problem is, there is no ps2 or serial mouse and
the toughpad doesn't work either.
So I probably need the USB fixes the get the USB mouse
working, however I cannot get beyond the "install"
becouse I have no way to move the mouse to slelect it.

What I need ( for starters ) is an install CD with the
USB fixes already on it.
Can someone explain to me how I make such an install CD?
BTW the one I tried now was the BeOS MAX version since
all the CPU patches seems precent there.
Maybe the next problem migth be the keyboard, that didn't
respond to anything not even CTR ALT DEL after showing
the "install" windows.

An other solution might be installing over LAN
from a computer with all fixes installed.
Anyone did that?
Or should I simply remove the laptops harddrive
and connect it to an other computer for installing
BeOS?

Suggestions please

Thanks

Only Zeta has decent USB support IIRC...and if you do get a system up and going with BeOS and then decide you want to use some USB things like cameras etc...it will disable the print server after you apply the patches.
So you have a choice when using pre-Dano BeOS: do I want to print or do I want to use my USB peripherals?
Hmmm...

Zeta...or Haiku...

There was a time I thought so myself, but I found out
that isn't true. After a clean install and installing the
Bone print stuff, it all worked ( and still ) like a charm.
Much Much better then that crappy Zeta print stuff.
Now I am printing over my network which workes fine too.

Zeta...or Haiku...
AFAIK, haiku isn't usable yet? So correct me I am wrong,
( hope so! )
About Zeta, no thanks been there done that, Zeta isn't
like BeOS at all, it's more like windows 98 but with
far less possibilities and worse support if there is support
at all.

That make it BSD Linux or Solaris, tried Linux before,
not bad but there are about 2 zillion incompatible versions
around and there is not a single Linux programmer
that want to use PERFECT working Linux programs.
In stead they all want to develop it every month again
on there own and of course it must be incompatible with
all previous versions and it must work totally un intuitive.

So, Linux it will be :-) Please Haiku people we are waiting for you!

Its not vaporware. You have to register as a beta tester or be willing to work on some part of it to get a copy. Buts its "usable" in the sense that some hardare is supported and some things actually work.
Ok...not complete yet...

Huh. All the screen shots of it looked really nice :)
Did you try the live cd?

No the full version V1 with a few updates.
There was/is a long list of "supported" printers LOL,
mine was there too. But it didn't work at all with the
drivers and it printed at 75 DPI with a driver for another
Brother model. Some ported linux print stuff without any
documentation didn't work at all.

YT simply ignore critical questions.
Like why my SCSI card is working perfect under BeOS R5 and
PE, and doesn't work under Zeta! There are more funny surprises
like that.

I am not primary looking for something different, I am mostly
looking for anything else that microsoft.
It must be "complete" and it must not destroy my boot partition!
Like may Linux version do and no way beside a total format
to get rid of it.
It must be beside the OS from our good friend Billie
and maybe others BeOS?? Bootmanager GAG works fine for me
running BeOS and win xp.
Further it don't needs to be several Gigs for just the OS.
So I am open for suggestions, you think Syllable is worth trying?

Once your Debian system is running, you can add new features and facilities to it by installing software PACKAGES -- and you'll seldom, if ever, have to restart!

Debian uses a cool packaging system "APT" that takes care of dependencies for you -- package_A may require package_B, which requires package_C, and the Advanced Package Tool will take care of installing package_C and package_B if you request package_A. Very nice!

It's called APT as in Advanced Package Tool.
